WHY IS CHILI A SYMBOL OF LUCK?

published on 04/11/2023 The lucky chili pepper also known as a croissant is a very frequent symbol to ward off bad luck. But what is its origin?
The association of chili pepper with luck is given by its name "horn", since in ancient times horns represented the strength and power of animals, and also, the phallic shape as a symbol of virility and courage.

But why exactly this fruit?
After the discovery of chili pepper and related beliefs of ancient populations, the red horn took its shape, both for its similarity and for the beneficial properties it brought to the organism. It was associated with the facilitation of blood circulation, therefore beneficial for muscle work, resistance, sexual vigor and strengthening the immune system. They claimed that it increased the sensitivity of nerve endings and heartbeat, stimulating the release of endorphins, as occurs during sexual intercourse. No, no, we are not saying to replace it with sexual activity, but it was believed to be a sort of "natural Viagra", due to its alleged aphrodisiac properties and to strengthen the bond of a couple. It is thought that it can keep the evil eye away and, intended as a talisman, it is therefore a perfect gift to give to a friend, a relative or your partner! In the countryside and in the peasant world of the past, tradition had it that the parents of the bride and groom gave their children chili pepper necklaces as a promise of help in case of need. Since the benefits of chili pepper have always been recognized, the symbol remained over the centuries as a lucky amulet.

Today, the chilli pepper remains a very present symbol in superstitious rites but to have an effect it must be handmade and given as a gift. Whether as an amulet or in the kitchen, chilli pepper always remains the best choice.
